Aurangabad Maharashtra 11th-15th Dec 2024
Aurangabad, Maharashtra
Aurangabad, known for its historical significance and rich cultural heritage, offers a variety of attractions. Here’s a 3-day itinerary for your trip:
Day 1: Ajanta Caves
- Ajanta Caves: Start your trip by visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ajanta Caves. These rock-cut caves are famous for their ancient Buddhist frescoes and sculptures. It’s a bit of a drive from Aurangabad (around 2 hours), so plan to spend the entire day exploring the caves.
- Photography and Exploration: Capture the intricate details of the murals and carvings. Don’t forget to visit the Viewpoint for a panoramic view of the entire cave complex.
- Return to Aurangabad: Head back to Aurangabad in the evening and relax after a day of exploration.
Day 2: Ellora Caves and Surroundings
- Ellora Caves: Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ellora Caves, is a complex of Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain rock-cut temples. The Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) is a must-see, known for its massive size and detailed carvings.
- Daulatabad Fort: After exploring Ellora, visit the nearby Daulatabad Fort, a historic fort known for its strategic location and impressive architecture.
- Bibi Ka Maqbara: In the evening, visit the Bibi Ka Maqbara, often called the “Taj of the Deccan.” It’s a mausoleum built by Aurangzeb for his wife and bears a resemblance to the Taj Mahal.
- Local Cuisine: End your day by trying some local delicacies like Naan Qalia, a traditional dish of Aurangabad.
Day 3: Aurangabad City and Nearby Attractions
- Panchakki: Start your day with a visit to Panchakki, a 17th-century water mill that exemplifies medieval Indian engineering.
- Aurangabad Caves: Explore the Aurangabad Caves, a group of 12 rock-cut Buddhist shrines, located close to the city. The carvings and sculptures here are unique and less crowded than Ajanta and Ellora.
- Shopping at Gul Mandi: Spend some time shopping for Himroo shawls, Paithani sarees, and other local crafts at Gul Mandi, the main shopping area in Aurangabad.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum: If time permits, visit this museum dedicated to the Maratha warrior king, which houses a collection of war weapons, artifacts, and relics from his era.
